Growing up in Portland, Oregon, Meridith found her way in the world through line and shape, making her own map from the inside out. After 18 years in the Pacific Northwest her path lead her South where she attended Scripps College in Claremont, California.  Here she studied painting, sculpting, and drawing, exploring such themes as drawing as improvisation, expressive minimal line, and abstraction in painting. Ink on paper quickly became her primary medium as her marks seemed so stark and pure sitting on top of the page.  Large scale drawing lent itself to the sense impermanence Burchiel felt her drawings had as moments in time. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts she found new roots in Los Angeles where she currently lives. Her more recent work has become more design focused including logos, product packaging, and textiles.
